The recent works reveal a new perspective on the landscape, traditional horizons have given way to a freer compositional element. A sense of cubist geometry articulates the work; colors have become flattened and patterns discrete, areas of rich opaque color juxtaposed with loosely painted areas of transparent color. The work has come away from the edges of the canvas and has its own deliberate contours framed by neutral or deep color. This pictorial device creates a spatial ambiguity: is the image beyond the border, or resting on top? I want the work to attract the viewer with beauty and simultaneously prompt curiosity.
